When your village pickup is the better answer

We will tell you when not to pay us, because most Lake County municipalities run seasonal yard waste collection and if your pile fits their rules it is already covered by what you pay in taxes.

The rules are broadly similar across the county: branches bundled with twine, cut to about four feet, under a few inches in diameter, no more than a set number of bundles per week, plus paper yard waste bags or a marked toter. Collection typically runs April through November and stops for winter.

Where that breaks down is exactly where we come in. A whole hedge or a row of arborvitae taken out at once. Storm damage with limbs over the diameter limit. Root balls. Anything that has to be gone before the buyer's inspection on Thursday rather than whenever the next scheduled pickup falls. A pile that would take nine weeks of bundling to clear legally.

Green waste, weight, and the storm week problem

Clean green waste goes to compost, not landfill. Branches, brush, leaves, grass and garden clippings all go to a composting facility, which is cheaper to tip than general waste. That saving only survives if the load stays clean, so keeping green waste separate from the general junk is worth doing rather than piling it all together.

Treated lumber is not green waste. Old fence panels, deck boards and raised beds get separated out at our end. It does not change anything for you, it just means the load splits on arrival.

Soil, sod and landscaping stone price by weight. A pickup bed of stone weighs more than a truck packed to the roof with brush. Those are quoted differently and it is worth keeping them in their own pile.

Stumps already out of the ground, yes. Rooted stumps, no. We do not grind or excavate. A stump still in the ground is a tree service job and the digging is most of the work.

After a storm, call early. When a big wind comes through Lake County the schedule fills within a day and the villages get overwhelmed at the same time.
