Salem Lakes, WI
Lake homes across Salem Lakes
Salem Lakes was formed in 2017 when the village of Silver Lake and the town of Salem combined, and it covers a lot of water: Silver Lake, Camp Lake, Center Lake, Hooker Lake and more. Around each lake is a mix of year-round houses and seasonal cottages, many on narrow lots with steep yards down to the water.
Seasonal homes collect in their own way. A place that sits closed up for part of the year gathers old mattresses, damp boxes, broken lawn furniture and gear that was going to be sorted next summer. When it gets opened up, sold or handed down, a basement and storage clear-out or a full cottage cleanout gets it back to a clean start.
Along Hwy 50 and Hwy 83, the year-round neighborhoods need the everyday jobs: appliances, full garages, brush after a storm. Paddock Lake is next door to the east, and Antioch and Lake Villa are just across the line.

Wisconsin disposal rules
Where a Salem Lakes load actually goes
Hauling on the Wisconsin side is not quite the same job as in Lake County, because Wisconsin's recycling law keeps more out of the landfill. Yard waste, major appliances, tires, cardboard and most household electronics - TVs, computers, monitors, printers and phones - are all banned from Wisconsin landfills, so a load has to be separated before anything is dumped.
That sorting is part of the price, not an add-on. Fridges and freezers go to a recycler that handles the refrigerant, electronics go to an e-waste recycler, brush and yard debris go to a yard waste site, metal goes to scrap, and furniture in decent shape goes to donation where it meets the intake standards.
What we cannot take is the same on both sides of the line: paint, solvents, pesticides, fuel, propane tanks and anything else that counts as household hazardous waste. If there is a shelf of it in the garage, we leave it where it is and tell you.
How it works
Four steps, no surprises at the end
- 01Send a photo
Text a picture of the pile, the room or the item. Most jobs can be priced from that without anybody coming out.
- 02Get a number
You get a flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, sweep-up and disposal fees. Not an hourly rate that moves.
- 03Pick a slot
Same-day and next-day are often open. If you are working to a closing or a delivery window, we schedule around it.
- 04We load and go
We carry it out - stairs and basements included - sweep the space and haul it off. You approve the price before anything moves.
Questions
Common questions in Salem Lakes
Do you really come up to Salem Lakes from Illinois?
Yes. We are based in Waukegan, a short run up I-94 or Sheridan Road from the state line, and Salem Lakes is part of our service area. You call or text the same number, and the job is priced the same way as anywhere we work.
How is the price worked out?
By volume - how much space your items take up in the truck, measured in fractions of a load. Labor, loading, sweeping up and the disposal or recycling fees are all included in that number, so the figure you are quoted is the figure you pay.
Can you give me a price from a photo?
Usually yes. Text a picture of the pile, the room or the item and we can give you a number back the same day for most jobs. Larger jobs - a whole house, a barn, a hot tub with no path out - are worth a quick on-site look first.
How soon can you get here?
Same-day and next-day slots are often available, and we schedule Monday through Saturday with Sunday by arrangement. If you are working to a closing date, a lease end or a delivery window, tell us the deadline when you call.
What happens to everything after you take it in Wisconsin?
It gets sorted. Wisconsin bans yard waste, major appliances, cardboard and most electronics from its landfills, so those go to recyclers and yard waste sites. Usable furniture goes to donation where it meets intake standards, metal goes to scrap, and only what is left goes to a licensed transfer station.
Do you cover the lake homes around Camp Lake, Center Lake and Silver Lake?
Yes, all of Salem Lakes. Steep lots and narrow drives are fine - tell us about access when you text the photo and the carry is included in the price.
Can you clear a seasonal home that has been closed up for a while?
Yes. Musty furniture, old mattresses, water-damaged boxes and whatever was left in the garage come out together. We clear the contents; mold or water damage to the structure is a job for a restoration company.
Is Salem Lakes close enough for same-day service?
Often, yes. It is a straight run up Hwy 83 from Antioch, and same-day or next-day slots are often open.
